This is a memoir about one man’s successful journey to find his mother who died when he was only two years old. Late in life he discovers clues to his mother’s identity including a series of letters she wrote prior to her death (1941 – 1945). These letters allow him to finally hear her voice. They are included at the end of the text and provide a final measure of closure to a life shaped by the problematic circumstances of his adoption and the scars imposed by early attachment disorder. The discovery of his mother’s voice filled him with joy, “as imperceptibly as a rising tide fills in an empty shoreline.”
